Dr. Taylor Hanes attended John Carroll University and earned a B.S. in Psychology and Statistics in 2017. She completed her M.A. in Clinical Psychology in 2019 and received her Psy.D. in Clinical Psychology with emphases in neuropsychology and substance abuse in 2023 from Adler University in Chicago, IL. Her dissertation focused on the impact of COVID-19 and the effects of social isolation during the COVID-19 pandemic on geriatric cognitive functioning. She is currently a member of Psi Chi and the American Psychological Association.<\/p>\n

Dr. Hanes serves as the Psychological Assessment Coordinator for the Psychology Department at Western State Hospital. Her main duties are administering a wide range psychological assessments (e.g., forensic, malingering, guardianship, placement, neuropsychological) to patients throughout the hospital, organizing the testing inventory, working with other services areas to coordinate evaluations, and teaching interns how to administer\/interpret psychological assessments.<\/p>\n

Dr. Hanes\u2019 theoretical orientation is Psychodynamic with a primary focus on Adlerian theory, which emphases the role of community engagement (Gemeinschaftsgef\u00fchl), personal significance, and compensatory strategies on self-development. She also frequently utilizes techniques from Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, and Emotion-Focused Therapy in order to best serve her patients. When working with students, Dr. Hanes\u2019 supervisory style utilizes the Discrimination Model and prefers to supervise in both teacher and consultant role depending on students\u2019 needs. Her goal as a supervisor is to provide students the opportunity to ask questions, learn, and grow into well-rounded and confident clinicians.<\/p>\n

When not working, Dr. Hanes can often be found hanging out in Sandy\u2019s office, reading the news and falling down many endless internet rabbit holes (if you need a trivia buddy, she’s your gal), watching true crime\/cult documentaries, binge watching television shows (mostly campy teen dramas ala ABC family and the occasional spooky drama series), playing Nintendo, embroidering, and spending time with her pet hedgehog\/department mascot, Melvin, and two cats, \u201cD***it\u201d Bernice and Steve the Pirate.<\/p>\n
