Dr. Hannah Sutherland

Role with Internship:      Instructor

Dr. Sutherland completed her M.A. degree and Psy.D. degree at Spalding University with an emphasis in Health Psychology.  Her interests involve working with clients ranging from early adulthood to late adulthood. She is currently the Program Director for the Admissions Unit and works closely with interns during all phases of their training year.

Her theoretical orientation is primarily Psychodynamic Therapy along with Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy; however, the techniques used primarily focus on the patient’s needs and what works for them.  Her supervision style is similar and focuses on what the supervisee needs.

When she is not at work, she enjoys dabbling in crafts and can be found knitting, needlepointing, or creating a quilt for her daughter. She also loives to read and can usually be found with a book! She enjoys spending time outdoors with her husband, daughter, and their two dogs.  If not working on crafts, she can be found near any body of water in her kayak exploring Kentucky.

Empathy has no script.  There is no right way or wrong way to do it. It’s simply listening, holding space, withholding judgment, emotionally connecting, and communicating that incredibly healing message of “you’re not alone.” –Brene Brown
