Dr. Shakeira Frye attended Tennessee State University and earned a B.S. in Psychology in 2015. She went on to receive her master’s degree in 2019 and then received her Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology in 2024 from Tennessee State University. She has primarily worked in private practice but also has experience working in hospitals and college universities with clients of diverse backgrounds and age groups. Her interests include working with adults, serious mental illness, and forensic psychology.
Dr. Frye currently serves as the co-psychologist on the Acute Services unit at Western State Hospital. Some of her duties include collaborating with the acute treatment team (which is made up of amazing social workers, nurses, therapeutic recreation therapists, dieticians, and psychiatrists), developing specific treatment plans for patients on the acute units, facilitating group and short-term individual therapy, co-facilitating morning case staffing and treatment team meetings, determining possible AOT clients, testifying in court, and preparing patients for discharge. She conducts intake assessments for patients who have been recently admitted to the hospital. Additionally, when working with patients at WSH, she typically uses a Cognitive Behavioral Theory approach.
When Dr. Frye is not working, she enjoys spending time with her family and friends, traveling, trying new restaurants, and binge-watching television series.
